Gay Liberation Front graphic adapted from a 1969 GLF San Francisco protest flyer.

Some sixty members of the GLF and affiliated queer liberation groups organized a rally outside the San Francisco Examiner newspaper on October 31, 1969, to protest the Examiner's homophobic reporting. As the protest crowd grew, Examiner staff climbed to the roof of the building and dumped a barrel of printer ink onto the protesters. The protesters used the ink to draw gay rights slogans on and around the building, resulting in "one of the most visible demonstrations of gay power" downtown San Francisco had even seen, according to the Bay Area Reporter newspaper.
