JAELYN - WE BEGIN cassette tape

WE BEGIN is the debut release of Philly-based progressive metal/post-hardcore band JAELYN. I (me, Mattie) play bass in this band, but WE BEGIN was released before I joined up, as a solo project by singer Jaelyn Robinson.

WE BEGIN is the first installment of a sci-fi space opera as told through seven metal/prog/post-punk/post-hardcore songs: 

In the distant future Earth is long dead, ruined by greed, power-hungry monsters and war. It's now just a barren rock floating silently in space.

Humanity had no choice but to move on and outward, spreading into several galaxies. Each galaxy is ruled by one of The Seven Sisters of Pleiades.

One of the sisters, Raim, rules her galaxy with an iron fist. Her slave labor ships known as, Reapers, are massive prisons. Thousands die from being worked to death or terminated for failure to meet their quotas.

Lumyn Vae, named after one of the only planets not yet in the sister's control, got word of her mother's murder at the hands of Raim herself. Knowing that something needed to be done to stop Raim, she gathers all of her strength and resources for one purpose, kill Raim and put an end to the Reapers.

It's spacey, emotionally soaring, and very trans. I've had such a great time learning and playing these songs, and especially in collaborating with my bandmates to continue to tell the story of Lumyn Vae and humanity's liberation from the Seven Sisters of Pleiades.
